Tom Flanagan has been appointed as Colchester United’s new Head of First-Team Recruitment, effective from the club’s announcement on 17 August 2026. The former midfielder, who is currently recovering from an Achilles injury, will lead the club’s player-search strategy in the League Two market.

He made over 100 appearances for Sunderland during a four-year spell, experiencing the intensity of a top-flight environment. At Colchester, he captained the side, made 45 appearances in his first season, and was praised by managers Danny and Nicky Cowley for raising standards.
