AFC Pegasus Colchester FC has been valued at more than £1.2 million for its community impact. The club's social value report calculates a precise figure of £1,227,400 based on its work with volunteers, local economic activity and health benefits.
The valuation was generated using an independent estimator built by State of Life, an organisation endorsed by HM Treasury's wellbeing guidance. The tool uses inputs like player and volunteer numbers and annual club expenditure to produce a clear monetary value for community contributions. Club secretary Carl Booth stated that the report is more than just numbers. He said it is a catalyst for growth that will help attract new players, energise volunteers and secure sponsors.
Booth emphasised the club's role as a united family rooted in the community, with a mission to give back and inspire. He highlighted a passion for opening doors for young people, offering a safe space to discover football and grow in confidence on and off the pitch. The resources produced include a full impact report and a media pack for outreach.
The initiative aligns with the Essex County FA's #MovingForward 2028 strategy, which aims to tackle inequalities and improve health through football across the county. The club also has a fundraising partnership with children's mental health charity Kids Inspire, which supports families across Essex and Suffolk. Drafts of the social value report are verified by the Essex County FA.
This off-field recognition comes as the first team prepares for its next League Two fixture. Colchester United, the professional club, currently sit 19th in the standings with 10 points from eight games, having scored an average of 1.25 goals per 90 minutes. Their recent form shows a single win in their last five outings. Their next match is away to 15th-placed Newport County this Saturday, a key fixture in their schedule. The social value report will be used as evidence to engage potential partners and expand the club's community programmes, which are detailed in the club's public stats on participation.
