Danny Cowley will make changes to his Colchester United team for the upcoming Jersey Mike's Trophy group game against the current holders, Luton Town. The manager stated this match is an important chance for squad players to make a case for more playing time.
Cowley said he will alter the starting eleven for the Group D fixture. He emphasized that those not regularly starting must keep working hard to earn their opportunities. "We want to have competition in every department, that’s always the ambition," Cowley said.
Young forward Kien Connolly could feature after his first appearance in the EFL. The player, who had useful loan periods with AFC Sudbury and Dagenham & Redbridge, has earned praise from Cowley for his progress and approach. "It was great for Kien to make his EFL debut," Cowley said.
Colchester, who are in the middle of the League Two table, face a Luton team that were victorious in this cup last season. The match was rescheduled from a later date after another of Colchester's games was called off. The team's recent performances include several draws and defeats in their past few matches, with a tied result in their last game where Moses Sesay found the net two times.
Cowley's team will next play a league match at home.
